Economic Development

The Downtown Development Authority and Cairo Main Street are committed to the beautification, historic preservation, and economic development of our downtown area.  Our purpose is to revitalize downtown with an emphasis on promotion, creating a social vive as a “gathering place” and attracting a viable retail mix. 

Successful revitalization requires a plan that will allow us to have some control over our downtown in spite of the economy’s ups and downs. Our approach for creating and sustaining a successful economic strategy should include good leadership, organization, funding, real estate, infrastructure, and marketing.  Our continual commitment to beautification and historic preservation, along with community participation and“buy-in” is essential to the short and long-term success of the program.
